CBS2: Councilwoman Takes Aim At Electric Bikes
February 28, 2012 Original Here Council Woman Jessica Lappin, Electric Bikes, Fines, Jessica Lappin NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) – A city council member is vowing to crack down on illegal electric bikes in New York City. Councilwoman Jessica Lappin says that she has received a number of complaints from residents. Lappin is proposing legislation to raise the current $500 fine to $1,000. The bikes are illegal if they go faster than 15 miles-per-hour. “We’re talking about bikes going 30 miles per hour on the sidewalk, going the wrong way down a one-way street, that is incredibly dangerous,” said Lappin. “I have been hearing overwhelmingly from constituents that they’re afraid of these electric bikes.” |
