Re: “With the Taxis of Tomorrow, New York City Aims to Change HONK! Into Honk” (news article, May 12):
It’s about time! Noise, and specifically horn-honking, is the top quality-of-life complaint I hear from my constituents. Loud car horns have been a problem forever. Or at least since 1935, when Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia issued a nighttime ban.
Our city’s cabdrivers are often the first to hit the horn. While I have serious concerns about the lack of accessibility in the chosen taxi of tomorrow, at least the Taxi and Limousine Commission has gotten this part right. I would love for a light to flash when a driver honks his horn. Then the police can issue more tickets, and the rest of us will be able to enjoy a little more peace and quiet in this hustling and bustling city that never sleeps.
