NY1: Select Bus Service Needs Improvement, Riders Say
February 7, 2011
Four months into its run, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Select Bus Service is getting average marks.
The M15, which runs along Manhattan's First and Second Avenues, received a "B-" on a report card issued by City Council Member Jessica Lappin.
The report card graded the service on speed, accessibility, tickets/ease of use, and enforcement.
The new route aims to speed up travel time by using designated lanes, curbside payment, and additional entrances. However, riders have called it "miserable" and "appalling."
They say problems include long wait times and broken ticket machines.
The MTA maintains the system has reduced travel time by 19 percent.
Lappin says while the system has great potential, it still needs improvement.
